New Outdoor Shelter coming soon on Erb’s Road1 min read
Reading Time: 2 minutesWork continues at the Outdoor Shelter site on Erb’s Road to prepare for a late April opening.
Fifty individual cabins will provide private, safer and inclusive accommodation for those experiencing unsheltered homelessness. Each cabin is furnished with a bed, desk, chair and small fridge. Cabins are equipped with electricity, heating and cooling systems.
A main community building will provide amenities like common space, kitchen servery, washrooms and laundry services.
The site will be staffed 24/7, managed by The Working Centre and will include support services and security. Services provided will include mental health and addiction supports, with a strong focus on connecting residents to permanent housing options.
The Outdoor Shelter on Erb’s Road forms one part of the Region’s Interim Housing Solutions strategy. Outdoor shelters are an important tool in the Region’s overall strategy to end chronic homelessness.

P.S. Did you know a new emergency men’s shelter opened in downtown Kitchener in December? And another shelter opened on King Street in the fall?
