How to use new e-scooters and e-bikes in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge
Have you spotted orange e-scooters and e-bikes around town? They’re part of an e-scooter and e-bike share program that launched in the Waterloo Region in spring 2023. The vehicles are available in the cities of Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo to give people a convenient new option to get where they need to go.
The program is run by Neuron Mobility, a company that operates e-scooter and e-bike programs in 12 other cities across Canada. These vehicles are a great way to get from a public transit route to your destination, for example, or for making a quick trip across downtown.
When people choose scooters and bikes, they’re helping reduce car pollution and traffic congestion.
“We know people’s transportation needs are different and that to meet these needs, we need to provide a variety of options and a variety of technologies,” said Regional Councillor Colleen James. “I also want to thank the many local partners and transit advocates who continually push local governments to innovate and take risks – be it expanded trail networks, separated bike lanes, or light rail transit.”

Where can I find an e-scooter or e-bike?
Use the app to locate available vehicles. The program first rolled out in the downtown areas of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo, and near transit stations.
Who can use the program?
Riders must be 16 years old and above. For those under 18, guardian consent is required. Helmets are provided with each vehicle, but you can also bring your own. All e-scooter riders are required to wear a helmet, and e-bike riders under 18 must also wear a helmet.
Where can I ride?
Check the Neuron app for the designated riding areas. The e-scooters and e-bikes are not permitted on sidewalks. The program uses GPS technology to make sure riders stay in the right areas.
How much does it cost?
There is a pay-per-ride option, paid with the Neuron app. The pay-as-you-go rate is $1.00 + $0.39 per minute, plus tax (prices change from time to time, so check the app for the latest). For people using more frequently, there are also lower rates available through 3-Day, Weekly and Monthly Passes, or bundles of 60, 150 or 240 minutes.
Where do I leave the scooter or bike when I’m done?
The Neuron app will show you designated parking stations. Don’t leave vehicles where they can obstruct other pedestrians and road users.

You can learn about safely riding e-scooters at the Scoot Safe website. Choose “Waterloo Region” as your community for free videos and quizzes to help prepare you for your first scooter journey, or just to refresh your knowledge.
