What does “1 Million Ready” mean for Waterloo Region?

Our community is on the cusp of an exciting future. Growth and change are on the horizon, with Waterloo Region poised to become home to one million people before we know it. 

Change can seem intimidating. But it is also an opportunity: an opportunity to plan for our future and shape the change that lies ahead. 

“1 Million Ready” was the theme of the 2024 State of the Region event on May 24. That theme generated conversation about the hard decisions and planning needed for Waterloo Region to evolve and grow into the future. Community leaders and partners gathered at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Regional Museum to hear Regional Chair Karen Redman and special guests share where they see the community going as we head towards a population of one million residents.

Chair Redman also hosted a panel discussion with experts in the fields of transit, housing, and building healthy cities to understand the challenges and opportunities ahead of us.  Joining her at the event were:
