Sunnyside Foundation is pitching in and making a difference
Do you know the Sunnyside Foundation? This registered charity’s mission is to help enhance the well-being and quality of life for the people served by Sunnyside Home and its various services for seniors.
Sunnyside Home is a long-term care home run by the Region of Waterloo in the Stanley Park area of Kitchener. It has about 260 residents, and serves even more people throughout the community with day programs. Sunnyside is funded by the Region and by Ontario’s Ministry of Long-Term Care.
Sunnyside Foundation, a registered charity who operates independently from the Region of Waterloo, helps to add extra programs and support.
Since its creation in 1998, the Sunnyside Foundation has successfully raised over $3 million. Through the years, these donations have helped add some amazing new services and equipment. Some examples:
- helped Sunnyside embrace the Butterfly Approach, a person-centred and emotion-focused model of care for people living with a dementia
- purchased ceiling lifts for residents to move with ease and comfort
- enhanced the Recreation and Music Therapy programs and supplies
- helped build the Sunnyside Wellness Centre where older adults can comfortably exercise
- supported chaplaincy and palliative care programs
- funded research and education that enhances quality care
- and much more!
Each year, the Sunnyside Foundation holds three large fundraisers: a golf tournament, a Winter Social, and – their biggest event – “Walk and Roll” each June.
This fall, golfers gathered on a beautiful day September 13 at Savannah Golf Links. A big thank you to everyone who participated in this fun day. These golfers helped raise $30,000 to support Sunnyside residents, tenants, clients, and community!
