Sorting skills: preparing for changes on collection day1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteOn Monday, October 17, 2022 the waste collection limit for single-family homes, duplexes and townhouse complexes will change from four bags or cans to three on collection days.
This change will help reduce food waste and recyclable materials going into the landfill.
Let’s sort these out of the garbage and into the blue box and green bin:
Take advantage of the weekly blue box and green bin collection; no limit to the number of blue boxes or green bins you can set out for collection. If you need an additional green bin, they are available for pick up at our sites.
Use the Waste Whiz to support your sort. This easy-to-use search tool will help you check how to sort an item. Download the free Waste Whiz app to your cell phone or check the Waste Whiz on our website.
Remember the maximum weight for each garbage bag or can is 23 kilograms (50 pounds) for collection. With the three bag or can limit, that is a total of 69 kilograms (150 pounds) of garbage per collection.
Quick recycling quiz: What room is most forgotten for recycling? The bathroom. Be sure to put shampoo bottles and toilet paper rolls in the blue box.
