Region of Waterloo donates ambulance and supplies after fire

After a fire destroyed Baker Lake’s ambulance and fire truck, help arrived from over 2,000 kilometers away. The Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services, along with Ambulances4NU and Cindy’s Northern Canada Projects, teamed up to donate a used ambulance to the Nunavut community.

This ambulance will now be Baker Lake’s main stretcher service unit, helping residents get to their nearest health centre or travel to larger hospitals when needed.

But that’s not all.

The ambulance arrived packed with supplies for families and children, including:

  • Clothing (new and gently used)
  • Bicycles and helmets
  • Hockey gear and skates
  • School supplies, books, and toys
  • Diapers and baby formula

These items were collected by Cindy’s Northern Canada Projects along with donations from Region of Waterloo Paramedics. These supplies will make a big difference for families in Baker Lake.

Ambulances4NU made sure the ambulance and supplies were delivered safely to the remote community, located in Nunavut’s Kivalliq region at the mouth of the Thelon River. About 2,000 residents live there. Just like in Waterloo Region, reliable emergency services when people need them are very important.

Thanks to teamwork between paramedic services and community groups, this ambulance can support a northern community when they need it most.
