Province shares funding for paramedic services in Region of Waterloo
Emergency medical services for people in Waterloo Region are getting $4.9 million in funding from the government of Ontario.
These grants support the investments Regional Council has made to continue providing critical life-saving paramedic service to this growing community.
Provincial funding was announced Sept. 24 at the Region’s Paramedic Services North Headquarters building on Erb’s Road:
- $3.4 million will help pay operating costs for the Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services ambulances. This comes from the province’s Land Ambulance Service Grant to help municipalities by sharing in the costs of ambulance service.
- $1.5 million to support the Dedicated Offload Nurses Program. This money is used to hire nurses who offload patients when they arrive at emergency departments, so paramedic crews can get back into the community faster after a call. The money will allow the three hospitals located in Waterloo Region to continue to staff an offload nurse position 24/7
Both the Dedicated Nurse Offload Program and the Land Ambulance Service Grant will help ensure more paramedics are available to answer the call when residents need them.
As our cities and townships grow, the Region of Waterloo is working to ensure people have access to the services they need when, where, and how they need them.
