The Grand River winds through Waterloo Region on its 310-kilometre journey to Lake Erie. It was designated as a Canadian Heritage River in 1994, and it’s called “Grand” for a reason. It provides us with enjoyment and is home to many plants and wildlife.

The Grand River is also an important drinking water resource for our community. But how does water from the Grand River become drinking water from your tap? It’s quite the journey. And now you can take it too! Join us for an exclusive virtual tour.

Begin your tour at the Grand River where we collect and move the water to the Mannheim Water Treatment Plant. Inside, follow the water as it completes each treatment step before entering a network of underground pipes that move the water to your home.
