Construction season means temporary disruptions, long-term improvements
With the arrival of spring, the familiar signs of construction season return to Waterloo Region. Yes, those pylons and road closures will cause some temporary inconveniences, but our construction projects play a crucial role in maintaining and improving the essential services residents and businesses rely on every day. Whether it’s smoother roadways, upgraded underground systems, or enhanced pedestrian and cyclist safety, each project serves our growing and evolving community.
We’re committed to minimizing detours, delays and construction noise impacts wherever we can. Every project is planned with careful attention to timing, traffic flow and community needs. We also plan multiple upgrades at once. For example, we plan watermain replacements with our road and multi-use path or cycle lane improvements at the same time to avoid repeated construction in the same area.
Throughout the season, we’ll provide regular updates on project progress and road closures on our website, social media channels and through our new texting program.
Real-time construction updates at your fingertips
Residents can now receive real-time updates on their phones — just text a construction project’s unique code to 57555. These project codes will be on signs at the work sites and on the project webpages found on the Region’s website. You can get up-to-date information on timelines, traffic impacts and project progress while on the go. Remember to use hands-free voice commands while driving or wait until you can safely text to use the service.

Explore our updated construction webpages and interactive map
We’ve also updated our website to help you stay informed about the Region’s active infrastructure projects no matter what stage they’re in. On the new site, you’ll find an interactive map of active and future projects. You can filter the map by municipality, project status and proposed start date. Every project has a page with clear, up-to-date information. There’s also a news feed with the latest construction notices. Check out the video tutorial below:
