Celebrating another milestone at the Region of Waterloo International Airport1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteOn June 29, 2023 the Region of Waterloo International Airport’s (YKF) unveiled its newest expansion piece: a state of the art outbound baggage system!
The new baggage screening system will contribute to a smoother passenger experience, allowing the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) to process 360 passengers per hour. The baggage system will be able to process 400 bags per hour – the equivalent of three Flair flights per hour!
The baggage system is one part of the airport’s $35M Airport Terminal Expansion Project to double the size of YKF’s existing air terminal to meet growing passenger demand. The expansion includes a baggage drop and check-in area with self-service kiosks, improved way-finding signage and updates at the main building entrance, and office space in the main terminal building.
Not only does this entire expansion project increase convenience for passengers, it enables families and businesses to connect to cities from coast to coast. Expanding our airport also directly supports the Region’s growing aerospace and aviation sector. Projects like these are vital toward aiding the Region, Ontario and all of Canada in our economic recovery and future resiliency.
