Celebrate Earth Day with a free landfill tour

Residents are invited to the Waterloo Landfill on Saturday, April 20, 2024 for an exclusive day of tours to celebrate Earth Day. The doors will be open to give an insightful look into waste management, evolving legislation, and the Region of Waterloo’s efforts to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility.

During the public tour day, residents will have the opportunity to understand the waste management process, from collection to disposal. Staff will guide visitors through the various stages of waste management, emphasizing the importance of waste reduction and composting in minimizing landfill volumes. Visitors will board a school bus and tour the 300-acre site to observe the tipping face, new cell construction, as well as our green bin and yard waste drop-off areas.

Public Tour Day at the Waterloo Landfill offers a unique opportunity for residents of all ages to gain a deeper understanding of waste management practices and the importance of sustainability.

Bus tours run every 30 minutes from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and last approximately 50 minutes. Residents are requested to arrive at 1516 Glasgow Street, Kitchener, approximately 15 minutes before their designated tour time. There is no cost to attend the event, but registration is required. To register, call the Region of Waterloo’s 24/7 call center at 519-575-4400.
