Amazing “Stories of care” are found across Waterloo Region
Positive change is possible when we work together. The Region of Waterloo is addressing critical needs in our community, and helping build a region where everyone can thrive.
What have we accomplished in the last year? Lots! The Region has just released “Stories of care,” our second annual yearbook to share how we’re working together with community to serve residents of this growing region.
The yearbook highlights 13 projects that made progress towards the priorities YOU told us matter. These are the priorities in our Strategic Plan, Growing with Care, a vision for the community that was built thanks to input from thousands of residents. It’s all about caring for people and the land we share.
Stories in our new yearbook include:
- How we’re building homes fast, exceeding our targets to build 2,500 new affordable units, so everyone has a place to call home
- How GRT responded to a record-setting 25 million riders, by growing service with more vehicles and operators to give this community sustainable, affordable transportation
- Why the Region of Waterloo International Airport is the fastest-growing airport in Canada. The past year saw new upgrades, art and destinations – and a record-breaking 445,000 passengers!
- The ways life has improved for people with dementia thanks to the innovative Butterfly Approach at Sunnyside Home
- How we’ve supported children and youth, like supporting childcare in different languages, and giving youth leaders the chance to make our community a better place
- How the Region of Waterloo is using your tax dollars wisely by working smarter and embracing hybrid work to downsize Region of Waterloo office space
Every day, the Region of Waterloo delivers services that 650,000 residents rely on: collecting and managing our community’s waste, protecting our safe drinking water, providing library and paramedic services, and much more. We also work closely with many community partners to meet community needs now and into the future.
