A new type of membership is giving community groups more ways to visit our museums
More people can access Region of Waterloo Museums and Archives sites, thanks to a new Community Membership for charities and registered not-for-profits.
This new membership was created in January 2026. It provides an affordable way for more people to access local history and cultural experiences at the Region’s museums.
How does it work? An eligible charity or not-for-profit buys a Community Membership for a flat rate of $60 per year (plus HST). The group can share that one membership with any number of staff, volunteers, and residents. There is no limit on how many people can use the membership or the number of visits.
The pass is for regular, self-guided museum visits. Proof of charitable or not-for-profit status is required to buy the membership.
The Region of Waterloo’s Museums and Archives team is committed to creating welcoming, inclusive spaces. This Community Membership is one more way to broaden participation and strengthen community connection. It also helps reduce admission barriers for equity-deserving groups.
Each membership includes:
- Monthly e-newsletter with advance notices and invitations to special events and exhibit openings
- Free, unlimited admission during hours of operation to all Region of Waterloo–operated museum sites:
- Doon Heritage Village (Reopening July 1, 2026)
- Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum
- McDougall Cottage Historic Site
- Schneider Haus National Historic Site
- 10% gift shop discount at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum and Schneider Haus National Historic Site
- 10% discount at Hazel’s Snack Bar at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum
Some of our sites are small, especially McDougall Cottage and Schneider Haus. Groups of 10 or more are encouraged to call ahead so museum staff can help ensure the best experience.
The new Community Memberships do not, however, provide a discount for tickets to special events or event venue rentals. Charitable and not-for-profit organizations will continue to receive a community discount on Region of Waterloo Museums and Archives room rentals.
