One woman’s journey from baker to GRT bus technician
Meet Iris. She works to keep Grand River Transit buses running smoothly – and she is also the first female bus technician.
GRT buses cover more than 16 million kilometres per year, so a lot of work goes into maintaining our fleet of 340 vehicles.
Iris tells us about her journey from a bakery to bus mechanic, and credits where she is now to hard work, dedication, and a little luck:
We hope you enjoyed meeting Iris. The Region of Waterloo may be a large organization, but within it are thousands of people working to support their neighbours. This is part of a “Here For You” series to introduce you to the many faces and roles at the Region who are working to deliver programs and services you rely on every day.
Follow the Region’s social media accounts (X, Facebook and Instagram) to meet more of these employees. You can even ask questions and get answers from these folks as we go!
