2024 budget maintains essential services, invests in what we need

The Region of Waterloo’s Plan and Budget is how we support what matters most to the community. The 2024 budget maintains the essential services residents rely on, while increasing investments to meet the needs of a rapidly growing community. It includes increased investments in housing, transit services, paramedic services, and more.

Regional Council passed the 2024 Plan and Budget on Wednesday, December 13. You can watch the final day of budget discussion on Youtube.

At a time of continued high inflation and escalating costs, the Region’s budget balances maintaining essential services with affordability for residents. The total 2024 Operating and Capital budget for Regional services, including costs for Waterloo Region Police Services, is $2.1 billion.

The budget is based on our Strategic Plan: Growing with Care. It will shape the Region of Waterloo as we grow to one million people in the coming decades.
